Download YouTube Videos as MP4, HD and FLV (Youtubemp)

Download YouTube As MP4 HD and FLV (Youtubemp) is a Firefox add-on to download videos from YouTube.com. It is the easiest way to download YouTube videos in FLV, MP4 and HD formats. Unlike other similar extensions, this one has a simple ‘integrated’ interface and it downloads videos directly from .

This add-on has been originally created by me, but now Alex Chitu maintains it. It is based on his popular greasemonkey script, which works with Google Chrome and other browsers as well.

How to use?

Download Video button and download options

  • Install the add-on from Firefox add-ons gallery.
  • Restart the browser, and load any YouTube video page. You will find a “Download” button below the video, next to the “Share” button.
  • Click this button, and a drop-down menu will appear. This menu provides all download options (FLV, MP4, HD) available for that particular video.
  • Click on the desired download option, and download will start quickly. You don’t need to do anything else.

when i press download ..it will go to another site and play on quick time player ..what should i do ?

  2. Jorlem says:

There is a conflict of some sort with the Flashblock add-on. When I have Flashblock disabled (through its options menu, not completely disabling it) the download button appears every time I’ve tried, but when the add-on is enabled, the download button only appears sporadically. It has only appeared once so far while Flashblock was enabled, but it is possible for it to do so.

Also, clicking the download link brought me to a page that was just a Quicktime viewer of an MP4 of the video, instead of initiating a download. I was able to download it anyway, by using File->Save Page As, but I thought you would like to know. If it would help, I can give you the URL of the Quicktime page and the page I was trying to download from.

    Thanks for the great add-on.

To those who say it doesn’t save, and it just plays ….

In Firefox, go to Edit – Preferences – Applications , then look for MPEG-4 Video, then choose Save File from the drop down menu.

  4. Ryan says:

OK. I got the point why this was not working earlier. Now version 0.5 beta working fine.:) Thanks for great add-on. 10/10

  5. Lauryn says:

the only way i can get videos from youtube to save is also by the videoplayback in quicktime and going under File and clicking Save Page As .. is this just the new way to save them or can i do something to save them the way the old version worked?

  6. osod says:

Could you please make a similar extension for chrome?

  7. Button Tapper says:

I also would like for this add on to work with flashblock. I recommend this add on to everyone who will listen at work or otherwise. But it hasn’t been working lately. Please take some time when you can and rework it.

  8. Arpit Kumar says:

@osod: Chrome version is already there :)

Install this greasemonkey script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105 // Chrome supports greasemonkey scripts as extensions – Read more here: http://blog.arpitnext.com/2009/11/chrome-chromium-to-get-full-greasemonkey-script-support.html

  9. Monroe says:

kdude and Lauryn have laid out the solution.
It works provided you immediately rename the saved file.

  10. Mjrn says:

When I press the button download there isn’t the list for downloading the file, nothing happens, it’s like I press it in vain. I thought it could be for the adblock add-on or the antivirus (I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010) but even when they’re off it doesn’t work. I also tried to install it again but nothing changed.

  11. Arpit Kumar says:

yes. This add-on is facing problems. :( Expect a fix soon.

  12. Kayt says:

I just downloaded it and I did it twice because it is not working. The DOWNLOAD button is appearing below the videos but it does nothing, there is no pull down menu. Any idea what the problem is? I will try to download once more but I don’t think this is the problem. Will post right away if it is but if you see nothing more from me, let me know if there’s more I need to do. Thanks.

  13. Ariel says:

It’s 7:00 of 30/5/2010 and the addon seems not to work on my new laptop. When I click on the Download button it just won’t do anything, absolutely nothing.
When I turn back to my apartment I’ll try the addon on my PC.

  14. Betara says:

Well I will give you credit for being the only download addon that worked with the new layout and instick progams and you held on to it for about 3 days but sadly, now it No longer works.
If you fix this and fix problems like this quckier next time, I will admit this to be the best addon ever!

  15. SirEdge says:

I love this add-on, and I’ve been using it for quite some time now, but last week it suddenly stopped working. Clicking on the Download button does nothing. I’m guessing it’s Firefox’s fault? :D

  16. BulkSlash says:

Yeah it’s stopped working for me in the last few days as well. I think either YouTube have made some changes that unwittingly break it or they’re deliberately trying to block it.

  17. Person says:

Whenever i press the download button, there is no drop down menu coming down. Why is that?

  18. Arpit Kumar says:

@Person & Everyone: I’m very sorry, but it seems that YouTube has changed settings once again. I am trying my best to solve this issue, and following the work of ‘gantt’ – original author of the script behind this add-on. Thanks for your support. Expect a fix soon. :)

  19. Arpit Kumar says:

Thankfully, Gantt (the original author of the script) has managed to find the fix – and I’ve uploaded a newer, updated & fixed version of this add-on to Mozilla Add-on site.
Please, update this add-on manually – - – else you will be asked to update soon. :)

  20. Marina says:

It is now June 5th, 2010.. the update kills the ability to watch videos on YouTube.. I have to disable the plugin in order to watch videos. The prior version worked fine. Hmm..

  21. Marina says:

The update for June 4th does not fix the problem. When this add-on is active, videos on YouTube play so slowly that they tie up the whole browser and it’s hard to quit even the page.

  22. Booster says:

The latest version is bugged up and slows down my browser whenever I go to a youtube page. I had to disable it.

  23. Alex says:

    The Greasemonkey script works well:

  24. Arpit Kumar says:

Thanks everyone for your support and feedback. :) I am no longer working on this add-on. Now, Alex is maintaining youtubemp.
I would suggest you all to roll back to version 0.6. You need to uninstall the v0.7 first, and then install the v0.6. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  25. Arpit Kumar says:

Update: version 0.72 is available! Cheers :)

  26. ProntoX says:

it has stopped working today. was working fine for me till yesterday.
