Gspace-store your files online with Gmail

As FireFox3 is releasing today , everyone on the Internet seems to be bitten by FireFox3 bug .

For the last two hours , I am surfing around the FireFox sites . I have installed many Add-ons and some new Themes .

I Just got a very useful Add-on Gspace , which can store your files online , in your Gmail account .

As , you know that Gmail offers a lot of space ( Currently , 6.67 GB ) and this space is increasing day by day . You can check your memory usage status here .

Gspace simply transfers your files to Your Gmail account . Hence, you have a nice online back-up all your data and you don't need USB pendrives to carry your important files . You can access these files from anywhere on the Earth , using an Internet Connection !!

Moreover , Gspace is a FireFox Add-on , so you need FireFox to use it .

Whenever , you transfer any file to your Gmail a/c using Gspace , it sends it as an attachment of an e-mail.

You can manage these e-mails by creating filters / Labels ( to Archive or Star them)

A similar service Gmail Drive is also there , which can even viewed and managed from "My Computer" and works as a stand-alone application ( Not a FireFox Add-on ) . But , I think that It doesn't work anymore ( as, I couldnot transfer any file and it shows that Gmail don't support it now !!! )

Jing : Best Free Screen Shot Tool

Wink ( from Debugmode ) was my default screen capture tool for a very long time . As , it is 100% freeware and easy-to-use . But , since when I have became more serious about screen capturing and recording , I switched to SnagIt . After having a trail, I simply purchased it ( SnagIt 8 ) because of its powerful capabilities .

But , now I have found another very Powerful Screen Capture and recording Tool : Jing . Jing is also from TechSmith , the owner of SnagIt . Let me tell you some cool features of Jing .

The TechSmith describe it as :

Is Jing a product? Not exactly. Is Jing a “beta”? Well, it’s not exactly that either. Jing is a concept that we’re evaluating to see if it can improve everyday conversations. Determining if Jing will be a product is what we are trying to do by gathering feedback from people like you. We think it’s a great way to improve daily conversations via email, IM chats and blog posts .Think of Jing as a supplement to all your chat discussions, email threads, forum posts and blog entries. It sits nicely on your desktop, ready to capture and share your stuff at a moment’s notice. Simply select an area of your screen, capture it as an image or record it as a video, and then click Share. Jing conveniently places a URL to your content on your clipboard ready for you to paste the URL into any of your conversations.

Hence , you can utilise Jing to create screenshots and videos and can share them easily with others . Your contents will be stored on TechSmith's Screencast.com , with a 200MB of space for storing screenshots and screencasts and 1 GB of bandwidth that renews monthly.

  • To take the screen shot , the process is very simple , just select the area on your desktopand select the option !

You can also opt for Video too !

  • Now you can edit the content . You can insert Text , Arrows etc. and save the image .

  • You are ready to share it with other . You can try TechSmith's Screencast.com or even , can upload directly to your flickr account !

Videos created with Jing are Flash SWF movies , that can also be embedded in web pages easily . You can see the FTP option in the screenshot ( above ) , hence you can upload it to your FTP account also .

You can explore the Jing yourself also , as it is very easy to use .

Now , the most attractive feature of Jing . It is FREE !!!

As , Jing is in Project Period ( Beta ) , hence is offered free . But , in future you may be asked to pay for it . Well , it deserves to be paid , just like the SnagIt .

Relativity Redefined

I couldn't stop myself from posting about a nice explanation of Theory of relativity .

That is here :

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.

- Albert Einstein

I found this on the weblog of Gaurav.

Doubt cleared ?

It is a blog just based on the format of popular chat show of Indian television , "Coffee with Karan" . It has guest from all possible dimensions and the blogger , Sundar Rajan G S takes their interviews . Sundar is a NIT Trichi passed out......and has got selection into CAT for IIM , after working for Google .

Endorsement of Tropicana By IMA and 7 Indians among top 100 Intellectuals

This is going to be again a non-IT post, but it deserves to be published on my blog. The latest issue of influential “Foreign Policy” magazine has identified the world’s Top 100 “Public Intellectuals”. In its second such exercise, India comes out shining too. The list includes 7 Indians. Historian Ramachandra Guha, political psychologist Ashis Nandy and Environmentalist Sunita Narain are the four who live in India. Four other Indians based outside also make the list - : Economist Amartya Sen, journalist Fareed Zakaria and novelist Salman Rushdie.

Sunita Narain is among the two Environmentalist included in the list. I watch her in a show on NDTV 24x7 last night. The debate was on the endorsement of Pepsico - product “Tropicana” By IMA: Indian Medical Association. No doubt, Sunita was against this move of IMA.

I am also on her side, because an endorsement by IMA means endorsement by Doctors. And should a doctor endorse a product from Pepsi? Fizzy or carbonated drinks from Pepsi will certainly gain from this endorsement, yet the Tropicana is claimed to be purely natural juice, even un-sweeten! IMA has approved many other products like Dettol : the household germicide.

BigB, BigAdda and Blog

As, the world was celebrating RSS day on the 1st may (I knew it quite later) the Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan announced to start a blog. You can check it here .

I saw an interview of Big B on TV , in which he was claiming that blogs have become a need for him , as he can connects to his fans directly now and clarify the rumours about "him" ( I think he mean Ash ) .

The domain name of blog also says something which forced me to write this post. Big B’s blog is hosted on BigAdda a social networking site promoted by Anil Ambani's ADAG - Adlabs. World know that Anil is close friend of Big B (but not as closer as Amar Singh) and hence, here is a friend for the support of other's venture.

India’s largest multiplex chain, Adlabs is going for a re-branding exercise like Hutch, to get common name with the group’s other entertainment ventures such as FM radio, music and movie production. In coming days all 54 multiplexes of Adlabs across the India would be named as “Big Cinema”.

The another bollywood actor who is famous for his blogs is Aamir Khan, who started his blog during the production of his movie "Laggan”. I have also heard about the homepages of John Abraham and Ritiek Roshan, but never try even to google them.

(PS: - Kareena said in a press conference: " I am not size Zero”. One friend has rated my size as Size 8. Thanking him for his rating and no more posts about movie stars now! )

Opera and end of FeedReader saga

Hi Guys !

I am posting after a very long time , almost after a month ! I was learning and exploring some new things . This includes new subjects in my course and many stuffs on internet .

I tried many new ( may be “new” for just me ) stuffs . My quest for a proper desktop feedreader was compeling me to try some new products . I went through many geeky articles and blog-posts for that .

As in my previous post I claimed that Google Reader is best web-based RSSreader , I am still claiming that . I am impressed with some others , specially the BlogLines ( http://bloglines.com ) . But , finally I have found the coolest way ( Yes! ) of syndication , the internet suites !!!!

Wikipedia describes “Internet Suite” as :

An Internet suite is an Internet-related software suite. Internet suites usually include a web browser, e-mail client (often with a news client and address book), download manager, HTML editor, and an IRC client.

I have tried many Internet Suites , but found Opera (http://www.opera.com/ ) be the best . Opera includes all the functionalities that may be needed to exist on web . Currently , I am using it as Browser,POP3 mail client , feed reader ( I had to import all my subscription here ) and for bookmarking important URLs . Opera is a freeware too !!!!

The Opera Software company claims that Opera is "the fastest browser on Earth."

Third-party speed tests showed that Opera 9.01 performed faster than any other browser in four out of seven speed tests on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X and three out of seven on Linux. Its strongest point by far was JavaScript execution, performing about twice as fast as the other browsers . Opera includes built-in tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, fraud protection, a download manager and BitTorrent client, a search bar, and a web feed aggregator. Opera also comes with an e-mail client called Opera Mail and an IRC chat client built in.

Best part of Opera is the tool Opera@USB , which makes it BEST among the others . You can carry your all Opera data ( including mails , feed-contents , web history , bookmarks etc ) with your USB flash drive to anywhere ! As , it saves data so , you can access them from any PC , even if there is no- internet connection . Certainly Opera needs more functions , but the present ones are more than enough for me .

Opera's latest version is 9.26 , which was released in the last month . The browser side of Opera is cool too . It is tabbed just like the FireFox .The latest update of browser world is that the Microsoft has released the first public beta of Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2. I havenot downloaded it so far , as I m in love with Opera now . I don't have even a wish to download it as I don't use it anymore from the time of launch of FireFox ! But now the move to Opera is very pleasing . Truely , I am loving it !!!

Bye .

About FeedReaders

Hi Guys!
I received many responses from all of you suggesting me a good feed reader. Thanks to all of you.

Guys, I have tried many blog-readers, of both types: web-based and desktop-based. Now here is the summary:

· If you love to stay online, Google Reader is the best for you. Others are not so cool. Another plus point of GoogleReader is its integrity with your Google/Gmail account. Hence, you don’t need to log-in and log-out to a different site. This integrity gives a nice experience. You can also share your stuffs with your friends.

· If you love your Inbox, and want to get your all contents right there, you can subscribe Blogs to your Inbox. You can use Filters (“Label” in Gmail) and add option for skipping the Inbox. Hence, you can read your loved blogs and feeds without using newer OR even strange (for someone) options, called Feed Readers!! But, another side of this story is that some blogs mayn’t have any option for e-mail subscription!! But, this may be a nice choice if avail!!

· If you like to use a desktop based RSS reader; there are many choices for you!! I have tried many of them, but can’t judge the best among them. I would like to mention three of them , which are better than the rest

1. The Amphetadesk (www.disobey.com/amphetadesk/ ).

It is very small but powerful tool. Created using Perl Programming. The best thing about it is its portability.

You can carry it in your USB drive and start reading whenever and where-ever you like!! It publishes the contents as HTML. But, it doesn’t look cool. It has no eye-catching format and fails to manage feeds. You may not like it ……….. And I am agree to you …But its simplicity it its biggest power.

2. RSS Bandit (www.rssbandit.org/).

3. RSS Owl (www.rssowl.org/)

Note that your machine needs JAVA and .Net Support to run RSSBandit & RSSOwl. Both of them provide very easy and loving way to manage and read feeds. You will become familiar to these very easily.

My above summary is based on my limited trail of Freeware Readers only. If you want to lose some bucks then there may be many other hot options for you. Moreover, many successful bloggers use them.

Now, I am a true-devotee of GoogleReader as it can be accessed from anywhere, and you don’t need to hold your quest. I have desktop readers in my pc, but rarely use them.

God Bless!!

(PS: I am very thankful to Mr. Dinesh Singh and other readers of my blogs, for such serious comments) Read Entire Post and Comment>

OpenOffice

Hi Guys!

The past week was not an ease for me. I had to visit several places to finish many pending tasks.

Well, I have tried the not-so-popular-yet Office package "OpenOffice" (http://OpenOffice.org ). This is a yet-to-be OpenSource replacement of Microsoft’s Office package.

The OpenOffice is OpenSource; i.e.; you can have it for free. It has been developed by the SUN Microsystems, the JAVA innovator. So, You can hope that it will rock in future.

Basically, I love the idea of OpenSource and I am fully confident about its success over conventional software companies.

The OpenOffice has many nice features, but it lacks the eye-catching format. As, it is new for MSOffice addicted persons (like me), so It will quite tough for them to switch to OpenOffice.

I would like to tell you most useful feature of it, The PDF conversion. I have to work on different systems and environments, So PDF format is a Boon for me. But, it is not easy to convert all formats into PDF quickly. I have to depend on PDF Virtual Printers, like GO2PDF etc. ! But, most disgusting fact is that their free versions add a bottom-line in each page showing that "This PDF is created using FREE PDF Converter". But, in OpenOffice there is no so display. Hence you can convert your Word documents , Presentations and other formats to PDF easily .

The other thing , which is in my mind is a good RSS feed reader . I am trying some freeware readers . I have found GoogleReader (http://google.com/reader ) to be best but my quest for desktop based RSS reader is still ON.

Have you any recommendations?? Just mail me.

God Bless. Read Entire Post and Comment>
