How To Get Back http:// In Address Bar of Firefox 7

As the BrowserFame reports, Firefox development team has planned to introduce another new feature inspired by Google Chrome. Currently available in Nightly channel, this feature hides http:// prefix of the URLs in the address bar. This feature is also available in Chrome.

No http:// in Firefox address bar

If you hate this feature and want to see http:// prefix in the location bar, here is a quick tip for you:

  • Type about:config in the address bar, and hit the enter key.
  • Click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
  • Now, type browser.urlbar.trimURLs in the filter box. This will show up the setting for hiding http:// prefix.
  • By default, its value should be true. Right click on it, and select the option “Toggle” to set it false. Done!

This will disable the setting to hide http:// in the location bar, and http:// prefix should now be visible again.

Note that this feature is not available in Firefox stable (regular) and beta yet. To test it, you should have Firefox Nightly installed on your computer.
