Firefox Add-on For Pinboard.in

Pinboard.in is the best online bookmark management tool.

Firefox add-on for Pinboard.in

I have created a Firefox add-on for Pinboard.in, which can be used for bookmarking current page from the context menu (right click menu) and the icon on the Add-on bar. You can also add notes by selecting text, and bookmark links without opening them. The add-on does not ask for your Pinboard username or password.

If you are a Pinboard + Firefox user, you must try this add-on.

How to use?

To Bookmark current page: Use the icon on the Add-on bar, or simply right click anywhere on the page:

Pinboard.in Firefox - icon on add-on bar
Pinboard.in add-on Firefox - context menu entry

To Add notes: Select text, and right click:

Pinboard.in addon Firefox - Add notes

To Bookmark links, without visiting: Right click on the link:

Firefox addon for Pinboard- bookmark links

Install this add-on from AMO.

Nice job with the add-on. What I find lacking is bookmarking the current page. Which is usually the case I have. Would be nice to have a “add current page to pinboard.in” in the context menu or even a button in the toolbar like the evernote add-on does.

    Cheers.

Silly me.. I didn’t finish reading your page to see the bookmarklet hint. That solves my issue nicely. Thanks for the add-on :)

  3. @Freyr: I’ll add this feature in the next release. Thanks for the tip. :)

looks like delicious is being sold/shut down. Just joined pinboard and first thing I did was install your FF extension. No luck getting it to work: http://i.imgur.com/YfXJs.png

  5. @doug: to use this extension, right click on any hyperlink (link) and not anywhere on the page. To bookmark the current web page, you can use the bookmarklets provided by Pinboard.in. The purpose of this extension is to bookmarks links, without visiting them.

any chance there will be an update of the extension soon? i’d really love to be able to use the contextual menu to add the current page. it’s one of my favorite features of the delicious extension, and has become indispensable.

    thanks, and happy new year.

I agree that the extension should include an option to bookmark the current page. Like most, I imagine, I bookmark content that I have at least partially read and deemed worthy of coming back to or sharing. That means I want to save it while I’m there on the page.

Well done Arpit. Add-on installation does not require restarting the Firefox. Thanks.

Will this get updated for firefox 8

  14. Arpit Kumar says:

@Nathan: done! Sorry for the inconvenience.

  15. Nathan says:

How long will it take to appear in the updates?

  16. david says:

hey man great extension. I have an update request- when I start typing and the tag appears, I want to just hit enter to select it. Or the right arrow. At the moment I have to click it with the mouse to select. And hitting enter saves the bookmark, which isn’t what I want to do, until the tag is in.

I know> griping. but maybe you want the feedback?

    Cheers

Does it work with Firefox 10 yet ?

  18. I have submitted a newer version of the add-on, which works smoothly with the Firefox 10 and later. This version is currently under review.

To install it, visit add-on’s page and look for the link to the version 3 (under the “About this Add-on” section): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pinboardin/
