Internet Explorer’s Market Share Falls Below 50%


According to StatCounter, the web traffic analysing service, market share of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is below 50% now. Although, Microsoft released a new beta version of Internet Explorer, IE 9, in last month – its user base fell to 49.87% in September.

Clicky.com, another similar service, also reports same for IE. Clicky reports only 42.86% market share for Internet Explorer (on 3rd October 2010).

Browser market share for other browsers in September 2010, as per StatCounter: Firefox 31.5%, Chrome 11.54%, Opera 2.03% and Safari 4.42%. Aodhan Cullen, CEO StatCounter, says, "This is certainly a milestone in the Internet browser wars. Just two years ago IE dominated the worldwide market with 67%. Microsoft’s agreement with European Commission competition authorities to offer EU users a choice and menu of browsers from March may have tipped IE below 50% globally."
