Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), the Indian political party, has sent a legal noticed to Congress over the cyber fraud. According to BJP, the party has its official website bjp.org, but a domain name www.bjp.com has been used to redirect internet users to the website of Indian National Congress party www.congress.org.in. Hence, anyone trying to access www.bjp.com is automatically redirected to the website of Congress party – which is highly misleading and deceptive.
BJP has also issued detailed information on how this domain name has been getting enough traffic from different sources. Most of the users have natural tendency to use .com top-level domain name, and this may be a reason behind the high traffic. BJP says that on September 30, when decision of Ayodhya case was declared, bjp.com received more than 40 lakh hits, and all the users were redirected to the website of Congress party.
BJP has also send notice to NameCheap.com, the registrar of bjp.com, and Administrative Contact of the domain name where the party has asked them to transfer the domain name to it.
