Mozilla, the organization behind web browser Firefox, is exploring the possibilities of add-on marketplace. This marketplace will help add-on developers to showcase and sell their add-ons. Many add-on developers have been demanding this feature for long, similar to other existing marketplaces for platforms like Apple iPhone.
Mozilla said in a newsletter, “Mozilla is investigating creating a Firefox Add-on Marketplace, to help Add-on developers better to showcase their software. The idea is that this will make it easier for Add-on developers to get closer to their audience, to other developers, and to make money. This, in turn, should stimulate add-on development, leading to even more and even better add-ons being developed.”

Mozilla says that it will use its share of revenue from the marketplace to help developers with the infrastructure, tools and promotion to market their add-ons. The Add-ons Marketplace will be a place where users are closer to developers, and developers share in each others’ success. Mozilla has asked developers to give their feedback on this revolutionary idea. Currently, Mozilla runs a voluntary donation program for developers, where users are asked for contribution, when they install the add-ons.
