Hotmail is changing, and now it offers a unique feature to its users. Hotmail users can now get alerts of new mails on their mobile phones via SMS. This service is completely free, requires just a simple setup and no GPRS connectivity is needed! Hence, you don’t need a GPRS enabled phone to get notifications of new emails.
According to a press release issued by Microsoft India, all Hotmail users can opt for this free service. To register for free Hotmail alerts: visit mobile.live.com, login with your Hotmail ID and verify your mobile number.
Microsoft says about this new feature:
Out of the 506 million mobile users in India, only 18 million have GPRS on their mobile phones. With email access available only to a meager 4% of the total mobile user base ‘Hotmail alert on your SMS’ breaks all technological barriers and helps you stay connected anytime, anywhere.
Gmail does not offer similar alerts, but we have listed few (working?) tricks here. Nice feature, but only for non-GPRS users.
I love hotmail services more than ever!
