Firefox users have some really powerful add-ons, like Adblock Plus. This add-on enables users to block annoying advertisements, tracking scripts, images and other content; and makes web surfing safer and secure. Simple Adblock is an extension for Internet Explorer, which brings almost the same functionality to the poor browser, Internet Explorer. If you use IE – you should immediately upgrade to Firefox (or Opera/Chrome). But, If you love Microsoft and IE and don’t want to switch to other browsers – Must try Simple Adblock.
Simple Adblock for Internet Explorer
Using Simple Adblock (SA) is simple! Install the Simple Adblock, restart the IE – and you will notice its icon on the status bar. Simple Adblock is intended to be easy to configure, so you only need to specify your country and then the ad blocking filters are selected for you and downloaded automatically, which might be sufficient for most users. Users can also add their custom filters to SA, though adding filters in not as easy as in Firefox’s Adblock Plus.
How To Add Custom Filters in Simple Adblock
To add custom filters, users need to edit easylist_personal.txt file manually, which can be found in SA’s directory. Depending on your Windows version, it should be located in:
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User name]\Application Data\Simple Adblock
- Vista: C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\LocalLow\Simple Adblock
- Windows 7: C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\LocalLow\Simple Adblock
Edit this file using WordPad or another text editor. SA’s Filters are compatible with Adblock Plus filters. For more information see this FAQ page.
