Google today announced that the company is working on browser based plug-ins, which will allow users to opt-out of being tracked by Google Analytics. Google Analytics is Google’s free website traffic monitoring and analyzing tool available to webmasters.
Google said in a blog post:
Over the past year, we have been exploring ways to offer users more choice on how their data is collected by Google Analytics. We concluded that the best approach would be to develop a global browser based plug-in to allow users to opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics. [ … ]

If you are interested in blocking Analytics’ tracking and ensuring your online privacy, you can always install Adblock plus or similar add-ons for Firefox.
Analytics and other similar tracking tools collect information about website’s visitors and their activities, and hence webmasters can use these trends to optimize and monetize their sites.
