The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the governing body for metro train services in Delhi and NCR, has announced partnership with Google India to provide information on train routes, station locations, train frequencies and schedules. This information will be available through Google’s step-by-step transit direction help service Google Transit.
This service will help visitors during the Commonwealth Games 2010, when thousands of tourists (including foreigners) will visit the city. Google India already has a similar tie-up with Kolkata Metro, Hyderabad Metro and Chennai MRTS.
E Sreedharan, the DMRC chief, said about this partnership:
In line with Delhi Metro’s vision for a people-centred public transport system, we have launched several initiatives to help commuters better manage their travel time, transfers, and make more informed transport decisions. The collaboration with Google is another step in this direction to make it even easier for the public to plan their trips with transit information on Google Maps.
Users can search Metro train routes, station location along with the navigation details. The service will cover complete Metro route in Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad.
Google Transit shows step-by-step navigation details on map. Users can also use mobile phone browsers to use this service. Of course, Google Transit is a free service.
