wp.me Shortlinks Are Now Available For Self Hosted WordPress Blogs
by Arpit Kumar on 22 December 2009
WordPress has its very own exclusive URL shortening service: wp.me. This service is not available to all Internet users, and restricted only to WordPress bloggers.
wp.me was available only for WordPress.com users, but with the launch of WordPress 2.9 – this feature is now open for Self hosted WordPress blogs as well.
Using wp.me on self hosted WordPress blogs
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to use this service. You need to install popular plugin WordPress.com Stats first, and only then you can use wp.me on your self hosted blog.

Once you have installed WP Stats, you can find “Get Shortlink” button on the “Edit Post” screen.
