Google recently launched own URL shortening service: goo.gl. This service is not open for “broader consumer use” yet and is (officially) available only with Google Toolbar and Feedburner.
Thankfully, Google Chrome has got great attention from developers and now there are several extensions for Chrome to create a goo.gl short URL from a long link. Unfortunately, Firefox (and Opera, Safari, IE etc) users have just one choice for creating goo.gl URLs – installing Google Toolbar, as there is no add-on or bookmarklet available.
But, the wait is over and now we have a bookmarklet for Firefox, Opera, Chrome and other browsers to create goo.gl short URLs just with a single mouse click! You don’t need to install any add-on or browser extension, just drag this bookmarklet/favlet to your bookmarks toolbar:

You can see this code at developer Matthew Flaschen’s site (link to .js file). I have tested it on Firefox, Opera and Chrome and it works smoothly. As you hit the bookmarklet, an alert box will appear with the shortened URL (see screenshot). You can simply copy it.

Thanks but i couldn’t make bookmarklet.
Can you give me a link, where bookmarklet is already made and there is only left to put it on the status bar?
Glad to see you like it. Note that there is a correction at http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~mflaschen3/goo.gl_bookmarklet.js , but not the Marklets site (http://www.marklets.com/Bookmarklets/goo.gl%20bookmarklet.aspx). window.location.href should be wrapped in a call to encodeURIComponent .
@Alexandrius: Thanks for your comment. I have updated the post. If you use Firefox, you can use this tiny add-on as well: http://goo.gl/xMsE
@Matthew: Great job!
@ArpitNext: thanks for your thanks. i’ve put it in Opera’s status bar, but when i click on the button it has no reaction :(
@Alexandrius : @ status bar??
Follow these steps: right click on the above red colored goo.gl bookmarklet > select “Bookmark Link…” and save it to any bookmark folder / menu. Now click it whenever you need to create short URLs using goo.gl
PS – I re-tried on Opera 10.00, and it is working. :)
@ArpitNext: oh i got it, works perfectly :)
good bookmark. you have not mentioned about the most popular browser in the world. MS Internet Explorer.
Waldimok, it works fine in IE.
