Google Transliteration

by Arpit Kumar on 20 November 2009

Google Transliteration is the online tool to write in Indian languages like Hindi, Telgu, Urdu, Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Persian, Punjabi (Gurumukhi) and Tamil. It is the same technology behind transliteration available with Orkut, Gmail and other Google apps. Just type any word as it sounds in English and Transliteration will convert it to the selected script.

In past Google had released this tool as a bookmarklet, but now transliteration is a standalone tool. A different project Script Converter is worth mentioning, which also converts the script of the text.

The main feature of Transliteration is the live conversion: it will convert the script of the text as you type. It supports Roman (English) to Hindi, Nepali, Gurumukhi, Arabic, Persian and few other Indian languages. Its interface supports rich text formatting (which is not yet supported in Script converter) – hence, you can use it as online word processor for non Roman scripts!

Well, after so many experiments, Transliteration seems to be a complete solution. Unfortunately, it supports just few languages.
