Public Waves In Google Wave

by Arpit Kumar on 21 October 2009

If you are alone in Google Wave and most of your friends are still checking their inbox for Google wave invite – you don’t have much to do with wave. Unfortunately, this is a true #fail situation, and you start feeling it useless. :(

Thankfully, there is something to try at this situation – public waves.

What Is A Public Wave?

Public waves have everyone as participant, and anyone can view or reply these threads.

Public Waves - Google Wave

To see public waves, just search for with:public. You will notice that these public waves are large in number, and are updating every second. You can improve your search by adding keywords to query, like -  with:public apple, and hence can fetch public waves with desired topics.

Due to large number of updates (replies), sometimes public waves can annoy you. The simplest solution for such situation is to mute that wave. :)

How To Create A Public Wave?

Add public@a.gwave.com to your contact list. You may get error while adding this : User does not have a Google Wave account. But, simply ignore this and hit the return key to add this contact.

Make a wave public

Now, whenever you decide to make a wave public, add this contact as a participant and your are done! :)

Hence, public wave is a cool way to discover more friends with similar interest.

I tried narrowing the search by entering two things, like with:public with:wave and it slowed down the avalanche of waves and gave me only those that were about wave. Pretty cool!

If you have trouble adding public@a.gwave.com, try adding easypublic@appspot.com to your Contact List. Worked for me.

It’s great to play around with it. For collaborating, it’s definitely a game-changer. It will be fun to see it grow!

[...] A very interesting part is finding the public waves. Finding them and reading the discussions of other people can be very helpful when some people have similar problem as you. [...]
