Add-ons For Offline Browsing With Firefox

We have been using offline browsers like HTTrack, which makes our life simpler even when there is no internet connection. Firefox — the most powerful browser on the planet, is blessed with some powerful add-ons which make it perfect for offline data access.

Here are top two of them :

Google Gears - This technology enables you to access popular sites like Gmail, Google Docs,  Google Reader, RememberTheMilk, Zoho, WordPress.com and Self-hosted WordPress Blogs (Wow!) etc. Though Gears supports other browsers too. Install it and you have option to work offline with these sites. All your offline changes will be synchronized as you connect to the internet.

Gears enhances the capabilities of webapps and bring them to desktop. :) Install Gears from here.

ScrapBook – ScrapBook is a popular Firefox add-on which saves webpages for offline reading. It is not just about saving webpages — you can edit them, manage them into different folders right from the add-on panel, highlight text on them, delete unwanted sections, add inline annotations etc.

ScrapBook Options

ScrapBook offers some more great features :

  • Option to capture multiple URLs simultaneously.
  • Option for in-depth capture — where linked pages are also captured :)
  • Easy backup of saved files.
  • Add comments to the saved pages.
  • Sidebar panel to manage captured pages.
  • Easy Export and Import option.

ScrapBook has an (optional) edit toolbar which has all the editing tools to edit the page before saving.

Some other useful add-ons are Read It Later (manages your reading list), ScribeFire (blog editor — compose posts offline and publish them later. Supports Blogger, WordPress and all major blogging platforms).

Use these add-ons and enjoy offline access to webapps & browsing with Firefox. :)
