Backup (And Restore) Your Favorite Greasemonkey Scripts

Greasemonkey scripts are one of the best features of Firefox (and sometimes Opera!). Here is how you can take backup of your favorite userscripts easily, and can restore them.

To take backup, you need to locate your Firefox profile directory. In Windows XP it should be here :

C:\Documents and Settings\Window-user-name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile name]\

In this folder, you will notice a sub-folder with the name gm_scripts. All the scripts installed on Firefox can be found here.

Just copy this folder. You can ZIP it and can save in Gmail, or carry it with your USB drive to restore on other computers. If you are re-installing Firefox or your operating system — you should take backup.

To restore them on other computers (or, on the same computer — with a fresh copy of Firefox) simply move to the Firefox profile folder again and overwrite the gm_scripts folder. :)

Note : If you use any sync tool, you can set synchronization of gm_scripts folders on multiple computers — to sync your greasemonkey scripts!

In the folder where u can find gm_script I have 2 of them….

    gm_script
    gm_scripts_08bak

I tryed to copy the script in the first folder, and even after restart, none of them was active.

But when i copied them on the second folder “gm_scripts_08bak
    ” they was working.

What the f…..??? I dnt really understand that.

  5. SteelMan says:

Oh, for Windows 7 the folders are just there:

    C : \Users\”username”\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\”random”.default

  6. Jack Daniles says:

If you have v0.9.1 of Greasemonkey installed just right click the monkey icon on the taskbar, select Manage Userscripts, then right click on one of the scripts & select Show Containing Folder, it will open the folder path where that script is located.

So for example i clicked the facebook purity script & it opened at

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\acaqm8xu.default\gm_scripts\facebook_purity

So the rest of the scripts are stored under gm_scripts, so just zip the whole folder then do the above on the pc where you wish to put the scripts & drag them from the zip file into the gm_scripts folder.
