Backup (And Restore) Your Favorite Greasemonkey Scripts

by Arpit Kumar on 1 September 2009

Greasemonkey scripts are one of the best features of Firefox (and sometimes Opera!). Here is how you can take backup of your favorite userscripts easily, and can restore them.

To take backup, you need to locate your Firefox profile directory. In Windows XP it should be here :

C:\Documents and Settings\Window-user-name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile name]\

In this folder, you will notice a sub-folder with the name gm_scripts. All the scripts installed on Firefox can be found here.

Just copy this folder. You can ZIP it and can save in Gmail, or carry it with your USB drive to restore on other computers. If you are re-installing Firefox or your operating system — you should take backup.

To restore them on other computers (or, on the same computer — with a fresh copy of Firefox) simply move to the Firefox profile folder again and overwrite the gm_scripts folder. :)

Note : If you use any sync tool, you can set synchronization of gm_scripts folders on multiple computers — to sync your greasemonkey scripts!
