Find Exactly Opposite Point On Earth

You must be aware that it is just impossible to dig a tunnel through the center of the Earth. But, there are few mashups which would tell you the exact location on the other side of the Earth.

Try BigHole or antipodr. These two are Google Maps mashups and are very simple to use.

Provide any location like New Delhi and the mashup will show the opposite location on the Earth.

I tried them for my hometown Ghaziabad and found that if I start digging, I will end up somewhere in Pacific Ocean.

I ended up in the Indian Ocean half way between Madagascar and Australia.
    Starting point was Odessa TX.

Sorry – these maps are incorrect. They’re based on the assumption that the earth is a sphere, but it’s not. It’s slightly flattened, bulging out at the equator (due to the spin). Unless you are digging directly on the equator, or directly on the pole, these models are going to give you an incorrect answer.

Puts new meaning to the old phrase, “Dig your way to China.”

From my point in Southeast Utah I ended somewhere in the Indian Ocean (37°43′07″S, 068°12′11″E).

love it. digging in a straight line is digging in a straight line despite the shape of anything. lol, have a great day

  5. If I dug a hole in Sarasota (Florida), I would end up just off the coast of Perth, Western Australia…

Hey, we could bring oranges to the Koala Bears!

…Or, maybe I could bring some Shelias back to the Sunshine State!
