Get More than 250 SMSs per week from Twitter

Twitter offers 250 per week as device updates and hence, you can get updates of your friends via SMSs. But, this number may finish within a DAY, if your social circle is large. Most of the tweeple are forced to OFF the device updates for relatively less important friends and miss their updates on SMS.

Here is a trick to overshoot this limit.

The trick is very tricky, completely Free, and only for Indian users. Just follow these steps :

  • Get your unique RSS feed URL. It should be something like : http://twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/42042042000.rss . You can get it from the RSS link at the bottom of your Twitter homepage.
  • Go to Feedburner. Burn the above feed.

You will be notified as The feed address you entered is password protected. You can specify a username and password in the URL like http://user:password@www.website.com/index.xml.

This is because this feed is password protected. Twitter protects your Friends Timeline ( i.e.; the updates of your friends ) from other users from rest of the world and only YOU can see them! To overcome this problem you need to re-enter your feed URL as : http://your-twitter-id:password@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/42042042000.rss. Now, continue the burning process.

  • After burning, Feedburner will provide you the new feed address at its domain, like : http://feeds.feedburner.com/xyzpqr.
  • Log-in to your Google SMS Channel account. Go to Create new Channel. Select the source as the RSS feeds and enter the above URL. It is advisable that you keep this group private and restrict the subscription only by invitations.

Just subscribe this SMS Channel and now you can get ALL updates on your mobile phone via SMS. I have found that SMS Channel doesnot response in the right manner for RSS feeds. It may be due to Beta / Labs status of the service!

Cheers !
